PADI Scuba Diver

PADI SCUBA DIVER

The adventure really begins here… and once you are a qualified diver, your life will never be the same! You’ve probably seen photos, television, and films about diving? However, until you take the plunge, you can’t really understand what it’s like. Nothing on earth matches the sensations you experience – the thrill of breathing underwater, the freedom of “weightlessness” with the unique sights and sounds. Coral Divers in Sodwana Bay is a 5 Star PADI Dive Centre & Resort and the perfect place to start your diving journey…

Why Do It?

Not enough time to do full course, but you need a certification? Then this is the one for you…

  • Dive with another certified diver up to a depth of 12m, within the limits of your training and experience
  • Buy air fills and hire scuba gear, as well as other diving-related services
  • Plan a dive together with a Divemaster, conduct and log dives no deeper than 12m
  • Continue your training by upgrading to the PADI Open Water Diver course

The PADI Scuba Diver course opens these doors for you and much more, especially if you don’t have time to do the full Open Water course. The course is approximately 60% of the PADI Open Water Diver course, however, this still gives you a valid certification.

We run our courses on the dates that best suit you. Simply email our bookings office on [email protected] and give them the dates you wish to be here. They will check availability and advise you on the course start date. Why not get a head start and do you theory online? Just mention that you would like to do this, and we will be happy to help.

Please Note:

The course price does not include any of the park fees, or your MPA dive permit (in case you have one already)…

The PADI Scuba Diver course consists of three parts: the pool training, knowledge development and two open water or ‘sea’ dives. Each plays an important role in learning to dive by getting you to meet the criteria to become certified.

The Knowledge Development section gives you the theory all divers need to have, to dive safely. You will only need to complete the first 3 chapters of the PADI Open Water manual. Each chapter needs independent study of the manual and for you to watch the DVD. Small quizzes and a Knowledge Review help you to recall what you have learnt. Your instructor will go through the Knowledge Reviews with you, to make sure you understand and answer your questions. A final quiz lets you see how well you have done.

The pool training or ‘Confined Water Dives’ are where the fun really begins. You will complete three pool sessions, where you learn and practice the skills you need to know, under the direct supervision of your instructor. You will also need to complete a 10 minute float and 200m swim. Our pool is heated in winter, so you’ll have the most comfortable experience possible.

The ‘Open Water Dives’ or sea dives, complete your training as a diver. There are 2 Open Water Dives which done under the direct supervision of your instructor, who will get you to repeat the skills learnt in the pool. You’ll finish the dive by practicing swimming over the reef and enjoying the many tropical fish and corals found in Sodwana Bay.

To qualify as a PADI Scuba Diver, you must be 10 years old or more. Under 18’s need a parent or guardian to complete and sign some paperwork.

If you answer “yes” to any of the questions on the Medical Questionnaire, you will require a ‘Fit for diving’ statement signed by a doctor. As well as being signed, it must be dated no older than 12 months. The doctor signing the form, cannot be the person doing the course.

If you’re under 15 you will be certified as a PADI Junior Open Water Diver (limits apply until you are 15).

There are 2 qualifying dives, full gear hire, your PADI certification and 3 nights’ accommodation in one of our Safari Tents. Please remember that you need to bring your own bedding for the tents? You may upgrade to a Standard Cabin or Ensuite Cabin, if you don’t want to stay in a tent. Please see the rate sheet for the upgrade price.

The course price includes the online PADI Open Water Diver ‘eManual’. Remember that for this course, meals are not included, so be sure to book them if needed.

This qualification allows you to enroll on the PADI Open Water Diver course.
