What is a PADI Staff Instructor?

A PADI Staff Instructor is an experienced PADI Instructor who has taken additional training to assist PADI Course Directors in conducting Instructor Development Courses (IDCs). This enhanced role allows you to independently teach and certify PADI Assistant Instructors (AI) and deliver the AI portion of the Academic, Confined Water, and Open Water teaching presentations.

As a PADI Staff Instructor, you play a crucial part in the instructor development process, providing invaluable counselling and extra training for IDC and IDC Staff Instructor candidates. Your responsibilities extend to assisting with training during instructor-level Continuing Education programs, such as PADI Specialty Instructor training courses.

By developing in-depth evaluation and counselling skills, you help shape the next generation of PADI Professionals. Additionally, your extensive knowledge and experience will supplement the Course Director’s expertise, making you an indispensable part of the team.

What Are The Requirements for the PADI Instructor Course?

To certify as a PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor, you need to meet specific requirements to ensure you are well-prepared and qualified for this rewarding career. Here’s what you need:

Active Status

  • Be an active status PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer (an Open Water Scuba Instructor who has certified 25 students and is certified to teach 5 PADI Specialty courses).

Use of PADI System

  • Agree to use the PADI System and components as they appear in the Course Director Manual and the Confined and Open Water Teaching Evaluation Slates.

Proof of Certification

  • Have proof of all prior certifications.

Full Set of Scuba Gear

  • Ensure you have a full set of scuba gear, including a dive computer (or dive watch), compass, dive knife, slate, RDP dive table, 2 surface Signalling devices (one audible and one visible, e.g., whistle and deploy buoy).

Agreement to PADI Standards

  • Agree to conduct all PADI certification courses and experience programs using methods in line with PADI standards and philosophy.

Emergency First Response Instructor

  • Be a currently renewed Emergency First Response Instructor.

During the PADI Staff Instructor course, you’ll master the PADI system of diver education through comprehensive academic teaching presentations, confined water skills presentations, and open water skills presentations. These sessions are designed to develop a solid foundation, ensuring you understand essential concepts and techniques. Hands-on workshops further enrich your learning, enabling you to impart knowledge effectively to future dive professionals.

In the second week, the focus intensifies on mastering the PADI system of diver education. You’ll engage in academic teaching presentations, confined water skills presentations, and open water skills presentations. These sessions aim to develop a solid foundation through interactive workshops, ensuring that you fully understand essential concepts and techniques, thereby enhancing your ability to effectively train future dive professionals.

  • Daily Meals: Relish hearty dinners and breakfasts each day.
  • Course Materials: PADI IDC DIgital Crewpack and EFRI “Crewpaks”.
  • Full Staff Instructor Course: Gain all the knowledge and skills required to excel.
  • Course Director Manual “Crewpak”: Essential materials for the course, including all necessary manuals and guides.
  • PADI Code Verification: Receive a code from PADI verifying the purchase of required materials for the course.
  • Accommodation: Enjoy 14 nights in a Safari Tent (bring your own bedding), with options to upgrade to a Standard Cabin or Ensuite Cabin.

What’s Excluded

While our PADI Staff Instructor course covers most essentials, there are a few items not included in the course price. Be prepared for the following additional costs:

  • Daily KZN Wildlife Fee: A daily fee to support conservation efforts within the KwaZulu-Natal wildlife areas.
  • iSimangaliso Park Gate Entry Fee: This is mandatory for all participants to enter the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
  • PADI Registration Fee: This fee covers your official registration with PADI and is an essential step in your certification process.

You are required to have a full set of scuba gear for the PADI Staff Instructor course, including a dive computer. If you do not have your gear, we offer rental packages at an additional cost.
